Atlanta Checker Cab has unveiled the first-of-its-kind wheelchair accessible cab in the Atlanta metropolitan area, which features the ability to transport multiple wheelchairs and passengers at the same time. Only three other cities in the United States have the vehicle.

Built by VPG Auto as an accessible van from the ground up, the MV-1 is not a converted van or an aftermarket product. It offers passengers in wheelchairs the ability to sit next to the driver, instead of in the back, allows for two wheelchairs at the same time, and can accommodate up to four passengers along with a wheelchair. The MV-1 is ADA compliant and features a large side doorway and deployable ramp that allows the vehicle to pull up right next to a curb, just as a cab would.

“As one of the oldest continuous members of the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association, it is important to Atlanta Checker Cab that we offer the best transportation services and vehicles to all of our customers,” Atlanta Checker Cab President Rick Hewatt said.
